Client Bio

We Light is an artist-led candle-making company that provides theatergoers with a front row scent in their home that’s equally great for the pocketbook, arts workers, and the environment. Complex and curated scents hand-poured with love into each and every candle. No factory — just artists.

Client Industry

Home Goods, Online Retail

Client Location

NYC, NY

The Objective

We Light was a peak-pandemic project. Performing artists suddenly out of work sought to create a business that could sustain themselves and others throughout the shut-down and beyond.

The Solution

A minimalist, easy-to-use e-commerce site that highlighted Antonio DeLucci’s stunning product photography.

Design Direction

Our guiding adjectives: minimalist, clean, bright

When We Light first launched there were only three scent options. The website was designed to show off these three scents as well as highlight proper usage and recycling for the candles on each product page.

The next homepage iteration was designed to be bold and fun, welcoming the audience in and playing with the bright yellow in the product photography. I framed the candle images in arches as a nod to the arch-like illumination that candles of this shape emit.

Fonts

Marcellus, Alternate Gothic Condensed, Acumin Pro Semi-Condensed

Colors

Yellow, white, and black. Keeping it super simple.

Dedicated pages cycle through to highlight seasonal collections and limited edition pours.

In preparation for the 2021 Holiday season, the decision was made to move to Squarespace 7.1. I kept the arches, and bright yellow, but simplified the fonts for legibility and style, and leaned into the interactivity as visitors explore the site.
